Vaginitis is a common situation which girls have to face either frequently or at least at some point of time in their lives. Genital herpes is most common among pregnant woman, and at least every three out of four woman have to deal with vulvovaginal Candidiasis. These infections become all the more serious for those with a weak immune system. Some of the most common signs that symbolise the effect of this infection are itching near the genital area, yeast infection sores and also some white semi-fluid discharge. However, a lot of infections can have similar symptoms so it’s better to be 100% sure before drawing conclusions.
In the Obstetrics & Gynecology Journal, a study was conducted by several doctors to learn about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of positive wet mounts or Candida albicans cultures. For this investigation, 774 women were selected randomly from a city clinic. Out of the 774 samples, 186 were confirmed to have Candida yeast infection, with symptoms of a burning sensation in the vagina, itchiness (vulvar pruritus), vaginal redness and sores, and a thick curdy vaginal discharge. The study then highlighted the risk factors that lead to the overgrowth of Candida albicans being: recent use of antibiotics, sexual intercourse more than 4 times a month, condom use, and recent gonococcal infections.
This study goes to show that sores and redness around the vagina are fairly frequent in cases of Candida yeast infection in women, and that having frequent sexual intercourse during genital yeast infections will the soreness in that region as well. Which is why during vaginal or penile yeast infections, sexual intercourse should be avoided. It also concluded that for correctly identifying vulvovaginal Candidiasis assessment for Trichomoniasis, Cervical Infection and Bacterial Vaginosis is required.
Generally, bacteria and yeasts are present within the body which actually help to maintain balance, however due to any hindrance, this balance can get affected and cause the emergence of several kinds of health problems. It is majorly the activity of the bacteria known as Lactobacillus which produce an environment fruitful for the uncontrolled growth of this yeast. Also, it is also important to note that such infections are not sexually transmitted but can contaminate others through intercourse. However, there are certain factors which make things worse. Let’s find out what are those reasons:
Dosage of antibiotics and corticosteroids.
Excessive diabetic conditions and pregnancy period
Lack of immunity
Activities which can hinder the health of the vaginal area.
Too much redness in the affected region supplemented by itchiness and swelling which gives rise to yeast infection sores
The frequency at which you suffer from yeast infection is very high, at least four or five times a year.
Very weak immune system due to illnesses.
It is always better to first see a doctor before assuming anything or starting off with any kind of medications. Several diseases have several symptoms and therefore various diagnosis procedures. Therefore, it is often requested to keep speculations at bay and visit a doctor. A doctor can rightfully say whether or not you are infected and the kind of treatment it therefore requires. Even if you have experienced similar sores before and had gone to the doctor to find it wasn’t yeast infection, it doesn’t mean you should diagnose yourself on the basis of what the doctor had advised previously, as it may be that you have yeast infection sores now.
Immediately after you go and see a doctor for the infection that you are suffering from, the doctor will go for a pelvic test in order to examine the vagina, cervix and vulva closely for yeast infection sores, which can be a clear indication. Also, along with these tests, the vaginal discharge would also be tested. In men, an examination of the penis may be carried out with swabs being taken from under the foreskin of the penis.
Most of the treatments, and prescribed medicines are oil-based. There are a multiple number of options which can be prescribed by the doctor for treatment. These procedures can range from seven days to a few weeks. Butoconazole, terconazole, miconazole and clotrimazole are some of the medicines which are often advised for the patients to consume. There are various home remedies which are also effective, including the use of apple cider vinegar, natural yogurt and raw honey.
