One of the studies done on this very topic of coconut oil and Candida was published in 2015. It was conducted on mice, to find if Candida overgrowth in the GI tract could be controlled with the use of coconut oil. Three different fat based sources were used, one being coconut oil. It was found that coconut oil single-handedly reduced the gut yeast by 90% in comparison to the effects of other two sources.

A comparative in vitro study of probiotics, ketoconazole, chlorhexidine and coconut oil and Candida was carried out in children and published in 2016. It looked at the children with early childhood tooth decay, or already existing Candida colonization. After groups of these children underwent treatment with all anti-microbial drugs mentioned above along with coconut oil, it showed that the effect coconut oil, chlorhexidine and ketoconazole had the best inhabitation (fewer amounts) of Candida. This study clearly indicates that coconut oil had good inhabitation of the Candida fungus of 16.8 mm, and can act as a good natural anti-fungal remedy and prevention beverage for treating Candida. Ketoconazole and Chlorhexidine also showed good inhabitation of the Candida, but they cannot be used long term as a preventative measure, and are only short term drugs. Whereas coconut oil can be consumed every day, all year round in moderation, with very good preventative properties.

However, this is not a major point of consideration as Coconut oil, inherently is very heat-stable, and hence, even in the Expeller pressed variants, there are no major threats about losing the natural attributes of this oil. However, if you don’t love the strong aroma and flavor of this oil, the Expeller pressed version will be the right choice, as this variety comes without that strong scent, as in the other version.
Likewise, it will be a wise move to opt for organic oil that comes completely free from artificial agents and additives. Hence, while looking for the best coconut oil that can enhance the taste and offer you ample of health benefits, you should always opt for the ones that are ‘organic’, ‘virgin’ as well as ‘cold pressed’.
We can take about 1 to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil for Candida treatment in any form daily, mainly in the morning. The dose can be increased slowly on daily basis up to 5 tablespoons if no symptoms of Candida die off are seen. But the dosage should be cut if we notice any signs of stomach cramps or diarrhoea. Coconut oil is heat stable oil and so when cooked at higher temperatures it does not break up easily into trans-fat that is unhealthy for us. So it can easily replace our daily cooking oil.
We can consume it with an easy spoon measurement method. Mix the coconut oil with equal amounts of olive oil, which can be used to prepare vinaigrette for salad dressing. Other than this we can also mix it with equal amount of peanut butter which can be used as a toast spread and would even enhance the flavour for our taste buds.
Equal amounts of coconut oil can be combined cinnamon oil for topical use. Then apply the mixture on the areas affected. Leave it till it dries up completely. Repeat this process regularly till the infection is fully contained.
After melting 1 or 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, swish the lukewarm coconut oil for 10 to 15 seconds in the mouth and then spit it out. Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after you have spitted out the coconut oil. This will help in curing any oral thrush. Repeat the process till the infection is gone. This method is also known as oil pulling.
